Dr. Trita Parsi Discusses US-Iran Relations

On Monday, January 18th, the IAS will host the president of the National Iranian American Council, Dr. Trita Parsi. Dr. Parsi will join us from 7:15pm to 8:45pm in the Lindner Commons, room 602 in the Elliott School of International Affairs, 1957 E Street. Dr. Parsi will discuss his book, Treacherous Alliances: The Secret Dealings of Israel, Iran, and the United States, and prospects for engagements with Iran.  Dr. Parsi is a recipient of the Council on Foreign Relation's 2008 Arthur Ross Silver Medallion and the 2010 Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. "The Surge" with Dr. Kimberly Kagan and Lt Gen. Dubik (Ret.)

On Tuesday January 19th, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Harry Harding Auditorium of the Elliott School - room 212 - the IAS will host Dr. Kimberly Kagan and Lieutenant General James M. Dubik (Ret.) for a discussion following a screening of the Institute for the Study of War's documentary, The Surge: The Untold StoryThe Surge offers a look into the real story of the Surge in Iraq, as told by the top U.S. Military Commanders.  These never-before-seen interviews move beyond Washington Politics to tell the ground truth of a failing mission transformed into one of the most successful military operations in a generation of war fighting.  Dr. Kagan is the Founder and President of the Institute for the Study of War, and author of the book, The Surge: A Military History. LTG Dubik is the Senior Fellow at the Institute for the Study of War; from 2007-2008,  LTG Dubik served as the Commanding General of Multi National Security Transition Command-Iraq (MNSTC-I) and retired following 37 years of service. Dr. Eduardo Zepeda Discusses the Future of Latin American Relations

On Wednesday, January 20th, the IAS will host Dr. Eduardo Zepeda, Senior Associate of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's Trade, Equity and Development Program.  Join us from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in Elliott School room 505.  Dr. Zepeda served as the Economic and Social Policy Coordinator in the Analysis Unit of the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President in Mexico.  Dr. Zepeda will discuss Latin American trade policy and relations with the United States. Potluck On the Vern

On Thursday, January 21st, join the IAS for the annual Potluck on the Vern!  We'll be celebrating 2010 in the Ames Pub on the Mount Vernon Campus at 8:00pm.  Everyone is encouraged to bring an international dish to share, please email our Mount Vernon Representative, Ferdinand Maubrey, at fmaubrey@gwmail.gwu.edu if you wish to make additions. IAS Ice Skating!

On Friday, January 22nd, join the IAS for an evening of ice skating at the Smithsonian Sculpture Garden.  We will meet Friday at the Foggy Bottom metro at 6:00pm. We Are Family! Volunteering

On Saturday: January 23rd, join the IAS as we help deliver groceries to the diverse and multicultural senior community of the North Capitol/Shaw neighborhoods of D.C. with We Are FamilyWe will be leaving the Foggy Bottom Metro Station at 8:45 am and will be arriving back at campus at about 1:30 pm.  This is a great opportunity to give back to the community, interact with people from a variety of different cultures, and see a side of the city you haven't seen before.  With any questions, contact our Outreach Coordinator, Kirsten Ortega, at knortega90@gmail.com.

WAMUNC Applications

If you have not applied for WAMUNC Staff, it is not too late!  We will be looking to add additional staff for WAMUNC all year.  Position preferences will be largely based on the timely submission of your applications - the sooner, the better.  Turn in the WAMUNC Application attached at the end of this e-mail to wamuncstaff@gmail.com or Marvin Center room 428 to apply!

Dues Payments and T-Shirts

IAS T-Shirts are in!!! Any dues paid member who is still in need of a T-Shirt may stop by the IAS Office to pick-up their shirt during any E-Board Officer's hours. All who were unable to pay at our first GMM may do so at the following office hours:

JESSICA THOMPSON: Mondays 10-11am & Tuesdays 8-9pm
TRISH PUTTMANN: Sundays 8-9pm & Mondays 5:30-6:30pm
DANIEL BOEHMER: Wednesday 10:30-11:30am & Thursday 3:45-4:45pm

These three individuals will be available to collect IAS membership dues of $15 (or $10 for a single semester) in the form of Cash or Check ONLY. Should you be unavailable at all above times, please email Trish at ias@gwu.edu, and we can arrange a separate meeting. Our office is Marvin Center 428 [MC 428].
