To the members of the George Washington University,
Welcome to the International Affairs Society!
The International Affairs Society (IAS) is the largest non-partisan student organization on campus dedicated to promoting a better understanding of international affairs as they concern the students of GWU. The IAS is composed of international affairs, political science, economics, and business majors as well as physics, geography, fine arts, and much more. Our student body spans from all corners of the globe as we embrace a truly international perspective.
The IAS will provide you opportunities that no other organization can through our vast academic and educational programs—
Visit Embassies, attend career panels, and get the chance to see high profile speakers from various governments, NGOs, and other international agencies. Ask an Ambassador a question about his life in the Foreign Service or how to best fight international poverty. The choice is yours when partake in our Academic Programming.
Represent GWU throughout the world in different locations ranging from New York to Singapore to Montreal as a part of our internationally renowned Model United Nations team. Attending conferences of all levels, both rookies and seasoned veterans have the chance to compete.
Chair your own Model UN committee at our annual Model UN conferences. The George Washington Conference on International Affairs (GWCIA) is our conference for middle school students in the fall and our Washington Area Model United Nations Conference (WAMUNC) in the spring hosts over 900 high school students.
Be recognized for your research by being published in the Globe, the premier undergraduate academic journal at the Elliott School focusing on International Affairs.
Join our various philanthropic events with our Outreach Programming as we raise money for Charity Water to bring clean water to people around the world. Or partake in our Program for International Education (GWUPIE) as we help teach international affairs to high school students in Washington DC.
Take a relaxing break from your classes and join our Social Programming when we take our annual retreat in the Shenandoah Valley or attend one of formals at the Kennedy Center or the French Embassy.
Come meet myself and the rest of the executive board at our General Membership Meetings during the year or stop by at weekly office hours. And once again, welcome to the International Affairs Society!
